Methyl tert-butyl ether (MTBE)
Methyl tert-butyl ether (MTBE) is an organic compound, chemical formula C5H12O, molecular weight 88.15, appearance as a colorless liquid, relative density 0.7405, boiling point 55.2°C, soluble in ethanol, ether, slightly soluble in water. It is a high oc-tane gas-oline additive prepared by the reaction of iso-butene and me-th-anol under the catalysis of ion exchange resin. It is often used as a gas-o-line additive to improve cold start, acceleration and octane number distribution of gasoline.
