Glycol is colorless, odorless, sweet liquid, low toxicity to animals, glycol can be mutually soluble with water, , but in the ether class solubility is small. Used as solvent, antifreeze and synthetic polyester raw materials. The polymer of ethylene glycol, polyethylene glycol (PEG), is a phase transfer catalyst and is also used in cell fusion; Its nitrate is an explosive.
